about

Powerful Yoga Music for Meditation

Thousands of years ago the vedic seers invoked the cosmic gods and goddesses with their incantations and meditations. Thus they received supernal light in abundant measure for the spiritual progress of man. Since then, through the ages, spiritual masters, yogis and avatars have come into the earth arena to elevate the human consciousness. In 1931 the Avatar Sri Chinmoy was born in the village of Shakpura in Bengal in India. In 1964 he came to New York to be of service to the seekers in the West. He composed over twenty-two thousand devotional songs for the spiritual journey of mankind. With the help of these songs it has become easy for today’s seeker to receive the inner light.

The members of the Dinesh Band are all students of the Guru Sri Chinmoy, who have been practising his Yoga for many years. They sing his songs for inspiration and to assimilate the divine qualities they received from their meditations. With this album they want to inspire everyone try to meditate. It was recorded within 7 hours inside a Hindu Temple in New York in April 2018 and contains 13 devotional songs composed by Sri Chinmoy. The first song consists only of the word “Supreme” which Sri Chinmoy had realised as being a mantra of the highest order. The last song is an ancient chant from the Upanishads which contains the Mother of all mantras, the sacred word AUM.

To keep the purity, simplicity and authenticity of Sri Chinmoy’s songs, as in the Traditional Indian way, no harmonies, second voices and arrangements were used in this recording. Occasionally elaborations on the melody and rhythmic variations were added by the musician.

Before the recording we meditated in silence. During the recording we meditated on sound. After the recording we meditated on silence.
